How Emily Schuman Turned Her Blog Into Her Career

 Hi welcome come on in. Let me show you around. My name is Emily Schumann and I write the blog cupcakes in Kashmir. I started cupcakes in Kashmir a little over seven years ago, and really I was feeling uninspired and bored with what I was doing at my day job I was working in advertising and wanted to create a place online. That kind of encapsulated all of my favorite things from fashion and food to interior design and beauty, and I just started writing one day and haven't stopped since this is our home. We moved in about a year and a half ago, and this is the room, our living room, that I realized. This was the right place for us. I would say the cupcakes and cashmere personality is bright and happy sophisticated and feminine. Let me take you to the dining room. This is where we work a lot of the times. This is my husband Jeffrey and we entertain in here a lot. I was pretty committed to cupcakes and cashmere right off the bat, even though, basically, the only people, reading the blog, where my parents and my now husband Jeffrey about a year and a half in after I was working steadily on it and committing a ton of time To it, I really saw that my traffic had gotten to a place where I was able to have advertising on the blog and support myself full-time. So I took a leap of faith and left my day, job pretty much decided on Christmas Day and and never looked back. This is the kitchen when we eat dinner at night, usually Jeffrey - and I are just at one of the stools when we entertained. This is kind of where everyone goes. It'S a great open space. Also, the lighting makes it really nice for photographing. So it's really exciting. Now that I actually have a team for a really long time. It was just me and then Jeffrey would shoot pictures of me on the weekends, but we have two other full-time employees. We have Phoebe who's, our art director and then Diana who is our editorial director. Okay, so for the shoot today we have the two that we're doing downtown and then tomorrow we're going to do the food post, which one is it. So I think one of the most exciting things about my job is that I always am doing different projects. So I'm still running the blog. We have 40 pieces of unique content a month, maintaining my social media channels and right now, though, one of my biggest focuses is my clothing line. It'S called cupcakes and cashmere. So this is the first delivery from my cupcakes and cashmere clothing line right now, I'm doing an outfit shoot, so I wanted something: that's really bright and fun. So I'm going to go with this poppy colored Schiff dress. I feel really fortunate that I have such a fun job. I'M doing really cool things pretty much every day. It really is still just a job, and my family is my priority, especially now that I have a little girl she's going to be six months pretty soon, and I love spending time with just her and my husband. So the future of cupcakes in Kashmir is really meant to continue to diversify the brand, taking it just from media already we have two books and the clothing line. I have some other licensing projects in the works that I'm really excited about and to just continue to evolve and move forward with the future, and I can't wait.
