House Tours: Cupcakes & Cashmere

 Hi there! I'm Emily Schumann from Cupcakes and Cashmere and welcome to my Los Angeles home. In terms of my style, I think it's always grounded in classics but with a twist and I think the same goes for my home. I really look at dressing myself as kind of the way that I decorate my home and so I think it's really important to kind of mix a high and low, new and vintage. So I think this room is a perfect example of kind of my whole philosophy of mixing old with new. The vintage rug really offsets nicely with the bright, shiny new chandelier. We have a vintage bar cart and oil painting. Our home is actually a hundred years old and so we had to do some upkeep here and there. We resurfaced the hardwood floors-- painted. The main thing was in the kitchen. So this island when we first moved in was the same size but, really really dark.

There was this dark green stone and the bottom was like this deep dark mahogany. It just kind of like sucked all the life from this area, which you know it's so light-filled and wonderful-- we have these great beams and windows up above so I love the way that it turned out. You know you feel like it's an older home, it has such a great soul but at the same time, I think we've done some really nice updates so that it still feels current. You're not in this like rickety old place. It's a place where all of our friends are constantly hanging out. My husband and I work together and obviously live together as well, so we're usually on the couch every night, having dinner and watching something really classy like The Bachelor, entertaining on the weekends. We have a pizza oven outside that is one of our favorite things. If I were to really condense all of the advice that I have, it would be to take your time.

You know coming up with the design of a home and making it feel like your own takes a while. Really make sure that any purchase that you make is something that you truly love and that you can live with for a while..
